Visit to a Machine component workshop

We visited GG Industries in Rajajinagar, thanks to Selvi Aunty. We saw machines which could run on electricity and also machines which do the same work manually when there is no electricity. It was wonderful to see how a small unit can hold so many machines and can complete the whole process of cutting of metal sheets, folding the metal, then welding the metal parts, then drilling holes, making slits in the metal and finally giving threads to the holes. We also saw machines which beads (attaches) small metal parts to large one… It was wonderful to interact with Govindraj Uncle and Anitha Aunty and know the story of how he acquired all the skills necessary to run this workshop. Govindraj Uncle has learned all the skills of machinery and business on his own, by his own experience. He has 10 employees in his workshop. Children were as curious about this workshop as were our hosts. And yes, this time we did not forget to carry our ‘Thank You’ poster. We were treated with chocolates by our hosts. We came back with lot of machine vocabulary & ideas.
