We all make decision, but how do we make decision? We would like our kids to be critical thinker and develop the ability to take decisions. Wonder how we take decision?

At campus we had to take decision ‘get up in the morning to go for running or not’. First we went for running at 6 in the morning to experience. One week gave us experience of how do we feel to get up in the morning, how do we feel in the day, how do we feel during run, how much is body capable and so on.

After a week it was time to take decision. So, the questions was ‘how to take decision’. We visited and analyzed our previous experiences of decisions making – like ‘how do we decide which jeans to buy’? it was amazing how the group of kids came with their own steps of making decision with a little guidance of a facilitator (mostly questioning – how, why)

We came up with these steps

What it is about (buy jeans)
Understand the need (how many to buy, for what occasion to buy)
Options available (shops, style etc)
Compare options (benefits)
Visualize outcome and decide

We discussed various criteria, needs…

  • Reasons to not go for run were……sleep, laziness, coziness in the morning,
  • Reasons to go for….freshness, health, fitness, satisfaction, walk in nature, practice routine, overcome weakness, feel good, stamina, run Marathon, reduce weight, flexibility.

Each one choose different options….run for how many days, when to run, etc

Each one has taken decision, now next is ‘implementing the decision’. Work in progress to understand our own laziness, mind blocks of sleep and morning getting up, body needs (tiredness or rest).
