The experience of film workshop was wonderful. Rowena’ enthusiasm was contagious, so Lancy’s dedication. Kids peace and fun was amazing learning opportunity.

It began with Lancy who apart from being a graphic designer is a film maker and was keen on sharing skills of film-making with kids (She alsoloves organic gardening).

Rowena, a home schooler enthusiastically announced the workshop and some adults and children raised their hands, and got together at campus to explore film-making.

There was no design, no activities, no stimulation, no making it exciting for kids – it was just very simple – shoot and make films. No theme was given, kids just went around the campus. They shot every unimaginable subject – grazing cow in the nearby field, cats sitting and resting, flowers swaying with the wind, people eating, stones…

Later Lancy introduced movie editing software to edit and put together and yes play around with clips they had shot.

Next day again kids went to opposite pond and shot what they liked or what they just saw around. This was just all about film making. All the participants did not have cameras … we all shared, waited for our turns, re-shot when films were not satisfactory (when camera malfunctioned).

Editing Software did not get installed in all the laptops…we again waited for our turns and all made their own films. We also realized that to make a one minute film we have to shoot footage for a long time.

None of us were visibly passionately deeply into film making – I mean it looked very casual and having many other activities in between by kids including playing cricket, with cars and i-pod and long chit chatting, ghost stories over dinner, learning zenatnagle from others etc.

Staying together gave us space to work at our own pace. We ate together, planned together, played and chatted all about likes and dislikes of movies and music, TV shows, own apprehensions, books, reading styles, video games and food. In the middle of all this we together cleaned up the place, watered the plants and cleaned kitchen after every meal.

None of the adults directed anyone, they were their own directors.Kudos to all for the spirit.

Looking forward to more such experience of learning together in community with our own strengths and limitations of skills. At the end children had sense of achievement when they wrote “directed by”.
